Assam Police Recruitment 2021
Assam Police will go through a ‘paradigm shift‘ in which 10 commando battalions, changed recruitment procedure, induction of more civil police and other welfare steps for the force’s personnel will be taken up, said the state’s Director General of Police, Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.
Announcing the reforms following a meeting headed by the state’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who also holds the Home portfolio, along with the Superintendents of Police of all the districts and other top cops, Mahanta said the attempts are to make Assam Police into a “competent and professional force”.
Mahanta
said that at least 12 thousand personnel will be
inducted into the Commando Battalions.
“These battalions will be opened up in various strategic places throughout the state so that its geographical integrity is maintained and the state can be capable of tackling any threats upon the state or the country. This will be an elite force of experts in which, Assam’s Virangana (a woman commando’s force) will also be inducted,” Mahanta said.
This means,
for armed or combat forces where physical agility is more important, education
will be overlooked while for technical posts, technical know-how will be given
more preferences and for sub-inspector or investigation purposes, highly educated,
apt in computers will be preferred.
“The
state has very low numbers accorded to civil police officers. Assam currently
has only 72 such officers for each 12 lakh of population. To bridge that gap, we will
recruit 23,000 civil police officers,” Mahanta said.
