NIC Scientific/Technical Assistant-A Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess the prescribed educational qualification and a valid GATE score in the relevant paper.
1. Computer Sciences & Information Technology
Candidates must have passed M.Sc./MS/MCA/B.E./B.Tech. in relevant fields such as:
- Electronics
- Electronics and Communication
- Electronics and Telecommunication
- Computer Sciences
- Computer and Networking Security
- Software System
- Information Technology
- Informatics
Candidates must also possess a valid GATE 2024, 2025 or 2026 score in CS (Computer Science and Information Technology).
2. Electronics and Communication Engineering
Candidates applying under this discipline must possess the prescribed qualification along with a valid GATE score in EC – Electronics and Communication Engineering for the year 2024, 2025 or 2026.
3. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
Candidates applying for this discipline must possess the prescribed qualification along with a valid GATE score in DA – Data Science and Artificial Intelligence for the year 2024, 2025 or 2026.
Experience
No experience is required for the Scientific/Technical Assistant-A post.

NIC Selection Process 2026
The selection process for the Scientific/Technical Assistant-A posts will be based primarily on the candidate’s valid GATE score.
NIC will prepare category-wise merit lists for each discipline according to the merit of GATE 2024, GATE 2025 and GATE 2026 scores. Equal weightage will be given to scores from all three years.
In case of a tie, NIC will apply the following criteria:
- The older GATE score year will be ranked higher.
- If the GATE score and year are the same, the older candidate will be ranked higher.
- If the tie continues, the candidate with a higher percentage in the essential qualification will be ranked higher.
Shortlisted candidates will subsequently be called for document verification before provisional appointment.
