Eligibility Criteria of UPSC Civil Service (Pre) Examination
Age Limit
Candidates must have attained 21 years and must not have attained 32 years as on 1st August 2026.

Educational Qualification
A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized University established by an Act of the Central or State Legislature or deemed to be a University under UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.
Appearing Candidates
Candidates appearing in the final year of their qualifying degree examination are also eligible to apply for the Preliminary Examination. However, they must produce proof of passing the degree before the Interview/Personality Test.

The Civil Services Examination will consist of two successive stages :
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective type) for the selection of candidates for the Main Examination; and
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination (Written and Interview) for the selection of candidates for the various Services and posts noted above.
