Under the latest Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator notification, AIIMS Guwahati has announced 103 vacancies on a tenure basis for a maximum period of three years under the Central Residency Scheme. The online application process is open from 4 September 2026 to 18 September 2026.
AIIMS Guwahati has also announced 63 Group-A Faculty vacancies for Professor, Additional Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor posts on a direct appointment basis. Educational Qualification
For Medical Candidates, applicants must possess a postgraduate medical degree such as MD/MS/DNB or equivalent in the relevant discipline from a recognized University/Institute as prescribed under the Residency Scheme.
For Dentistry, MDS in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from a recognized University/Institute is required.
For Non-Medical candidates, the prescribed qualifications include:
- Anatomy – M.Sc., PhD in Human Anatomy
- Physiology – M.Sc., PhD in Medical Physiology/Physiology
- Biochemistry – M.Sc., PhD in Medical Biochemistry/Biochemistry
- Microbiology – M.Sc., PhD in Medical Microbiology/Microbiology
- Pharmacology – M.Sc., PhD in Medical Microbiology/Microbiology
Candidates with MD/MS in General Medicine/General Surgery may apply for residency in the corresponding medical or surgical super-specialty departments. Candidates with MD Paediatrics may apply for Neonatology, while specified qualifications in Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia and General Surgery are eligible for Trauma and Emergency Medicine.
AIIMS Guwahati Faculty Eligibility Criteria
Professor
For Medical Candidates, a recognized medical qualification along with a postgraduate qualification such as MD/MS or equivalent in the concerned specialty is required. For super-specialty disciplines, DM/M.Ch or equivalent qualification is applicable.
The required experience is generally:
- 14 years teaching/research experience after MD/MS for relevant disciplines; or
- 12 years after a recognized 2/5-year DM/M.Ch; or
- 11 years after a recognized 3-year DM/M.Ch.
For Non-Medical candidates, a Master’s degree and doctorate in the concerned discipline are required, along with 14 years of teaching/research experience after the doctorate.
Additional Professor
For general disciplines, the required qualification is similar to that prescribed for Professor, while super-specialty posts require the relevant DM/M.Ch or equivalent qualification.
The prescribed teaching/research experience is generally 10 years after MD/MS for relevant disciplines and 8 years after DM/M.Ch for applicable super-specialty disciplines. For candidates possessing a recognized 3-year DM/M.Ch, the required experience is generally 7 years.
Associate Professor
Candidates must possess the prescribed medical qualification and relevant postgraduate/super-specialty qualification. The required experience is generally 6 years for general disciplines and 4 years after DM/M.Ch for applicable super-specialty disciplines. Candidates possessing a recognized 3-year DM/M.Ch may require 3 years of relevant experience.
Assistant Professor
For general disciplines, candidates generally require 3 years of teaching/research experience after MD/MS or equivalent.
For super-specialty disciplines, 1 year of relevant teaching/research experience after DM/M.Ch is required. However, candidates possessing a recognized 3-year DM/M.Ch do not require experience.
For applicable Non-Medical posts, a Master’s degree and doctorate in the concerned discipline are required, along with 3 years of teaching/research experience after the doctorate.
Age Limit
Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator
The maximum age is 45 years as on the closing date of online applications.
Age relaxation is available as follows:
- SC/ST – 5 years
- OBC – 3 years
- PwBD – up to 10 years for General, 13 years for OBC and 15 years for SC/ST
Faculty Posts
For Professor and Additional Professor, the maximum age limit is 58 years.
For Associate Professor and Assistant Professor, the maximum age limit is 50 years.

Senior Resident/Senior Demonstrator
Medical candidates will receive pay as per 7th CPC Pay Level-11, with an entry pay of Rs. 67,700/- plus NPA and other allowances.
For Non-Medical candidates with M.Sc. and PhD, the pay is Rs. 56,100/- in Level-10 under the 7th CPC plus other allowances.
