NFR Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Pay Level
The vacancies are distributed as follows:

Selected candidates may be posted at the N.F. Railway Headquarters or in the Alipurduar, Katihar, Rangiya, Lumding and Tinsukia Divisions, depending on the requirement of sports and availability of vacancies.
NFR Sports Quota Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must fulfil both the prescribed educational qualification and sports achievement requirements.
Educational Qualification
For Level 3/2:
Candidates should have passed Class 12th (+2 stage) or equivalent examination from a Government-recognized Board, Council or Institution.
For Level 1:
Candidates should have passed Class 10th (Matriculation), ITI or equivalent, or possess a National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) granted by NCVT.
Age Limit
The candidate’s age should be:
- Minimum Age: 18 years
- Maximum Age: 25 years
- Age calculated as on: 1 January 2027
Thus, candidates must be within the prescribed age limit on the crucial date mentioned in the notification.
Sports Achievement Eligibility
One of the most important requirements is the candidate’s recognized sports achievement.
Only sports achievements obtained in recognized championships/events held on or after 1 April 2024 will be considered. The candidate should also be an active player currently. For determining the validity of a sports achievement, the concluding date of the championship/event will be considered.
Minimum Sports Norms
For Level 3/2
Candidates should satisfy at least one of the following sports criteria:
- Represented India in any Category-B championship/event.
- Secured at least 3rd position in a Category-C championship/event.
- Secured at least 3rd position in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships.
- Secured at least 3rd position in National Games organized under the Indian Olympic Association.
- Secured at least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championships organized under the Association of Indian Universities.
- Secured 1st position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category).
For Level 1
Candidates should satisfy at least one of the following:
- Represented India in any Category-C championship/event.
- Secured at least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category).
- Represented a state or equivalent unit and secured at least 8th position in Senior National Championships, except marathon and cross-country.
Candidates meeting the sports norms for higher grades will also be eligible for lower grades.

Sports-Specific Eligibility
The notification also contains specific conditions for different disciplines including Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Football, Golf, Powerlifting, Volleyball and Weightlifting.
For example, current annual All India rankings are considered for Badminton and Table Tennis at different levels. In Cricket, specific participation and performance requirements have been prescribed for Level 3/2 and Level 1 posts. Golf candidates must meet the prescribed IGU ranking requirements and single-handicap condition.

Selection Process
The selection process for NFR Sports Quota 2026 consists mainly of:
- Sports Trial
- Interview and assessment of sports achievement, educational qualification, etc.
- Final merit list
- Medical examination
Shortlisted eligible candidates will be called for sports trials followed by interview/assessment.
Sports Trial – 40 Marks
The Trial Committee will assess:
- Game skill
- Physical fitness
- Coach’s observations
The trial carries a maximum of 40 marks.
Candidates securing 25 marks or more will be declared FIT and will proceed to the next stage. Candidates securing less than 25 marks will be declared NOT FIT.
Final Marks – 100
The final assessment will be based on:

Only candidates declared FIT in the sports trial will be assessed by the Recruitment Committee. The final merit list will be prepared by combining the trial and recruitment committee marks.
Minimum Qualifying Marks
- Level 3: 65 marks
- Level 2: 65 marks
- Level 1: 60 marks
Appointment will be offered purely on merit. If two candidates obtain the same marks, preference will be given to the younger candidate.
